Hoam eSIM vs Holafly: pay per GB or pay per day
The real difference here is the pricing model. Hoam eSIM charges per destination and per GB, for 30 days from your first connection, and you choose the data amount. Whether Holafly charges by the day, and what its plans include, is answered in the table from Holafly's own site. For a two-week trip, the data you actually use decides which model costs less.

Pay per GB or pay per day
The two models charge for different things. A plan sized in GB charges for the data; a plan priced by the day charges for the time, whatever you use. Which costs less depends on how much data your trip uses, so that is the number to know first.
Our article How much mobile data travellers really use reports typical usage from anonymised Hoam eSIM trips:
| Trip length | Typical usage |
|---|---|
| Weekend (2 to 3 days) | 1 to 2 GB |
| 5 to 7 days | 4 to 5 GB |
| 10 to 14 days | 6 to 10 GB |
| 3 to 4 weeks | 12 to 20 GB |
The same article finds that navigation, messaging and on-the-go bookings are most of it, and that most travellers move streaming and backups to Wi-Fi.
Holafly prices by trip length, not by GB: its Greece and Europe plans run from US$3.90 for 1 day to US$140.90 for 90 days, and 30 days is US$76.50, about US$2.55 a day. The data is unlimited, subject to local operators' fair-use policies, and hotspot sharing is limited to 1GB a day.
When to choose Holafly
From what esim.holafly.com states, Holafly can be the better purchase in these cases:
- You use a lot of mobile data. A trip well above the ranges above, with streaming or large uploads on mobile data, suits a plan priced by the day rather than by the GB. Hotspot sharing is limited to 1GB a day.
- You do not want to choose a data amount. Trip plans are unlimited, though local operators' fair-use policies may reduce speed for up to a day.
- You need a number for verification codes. The Unlimited Plan subscription includes a US, UK or Canada number that receives SMS; Hoam eSIM is data only.
When to choose Hoam eSIM
Your usage fits a data amount. If your trip is in the ranges above, you pay for the GB you choose rather than for every day of the trip.
Your trip crosses several countries. HOAM Dynamic eSIM is one eSIM for the whole route, with one plan covering every country you choose.
You travel more than once. The eSIM stays on your phone and costs nothing between trips; the next trip, or more data mid-trip, is a new plan loaded onto the same eSIM from the browser. See how reloading works. Holafly eSIMs bought from 30 September 2026 can also take a new plan, so this matters most if you hold an older, single-use Holafly eSIM.
Hoam eSIM is data only; your own SIM keeps your number for calls and SMS.
Frequently asked questions
Is unlimited data worth it for a two-week trip?
It depends on how much you use. In our own usage data, a 10 to 14 day trip typically uses 6 to 10 GB, mostly maps, messaging and bookings (see How much mobile data travellers really use, on our blog). If that matches you, a plan sized in GB covers the trip. Holafly's plans are unlimited, but local operators' fair-use policies may reduce speed for up to a day, and Holafly publishes no threshold or reduced speed.
Which is cheaper for a multi-country route?
It depends on the route, the trip length and the data you need, so this page compares one fixed example with dated prices: Greece and Turkey, 5GB, 30 days. Our price is read live from our catalogue. The nearest Holafly plan is the Mediterranean Cruise plan, US$74.90 for 30 days of unlimited data, with coverage on land only; its Europe plan does not include Turkey. Holafly also sells a monthly subscription, Light, with 25 GB for US$49.90 a month in 160+ destinations, including Greece and Turkey. It starts at purchase and renews until cancelled.
Can I top up Hoam eSIM mid-trip?
Yes. Reload from the browser at any time by choosing the destination and the data amount and picking your eSIM, and the plan is loaded onto the eSIM already on your phone. There is no new QR code to scan.
Does either include calls and SMS?
Hoam eSIM is data only; your own SIM keeps your number for calls and SMS. Holafly's trip eSIMs are data only too; its Unlimited Plan subscription adds a US, UK or Canada number that receives SMS, with no calls or outgoing SMS.
