Hoam eSIM vs Nomad eSIM: custom route or regional plan

Hoam eSIM builds one plan from the exact countries on your route, so one HOAM Dynamic eSIM covers a trip whose countries no single region groups together. Nomad eSIM, sold at nomadesim.com, is compared here on the same eleven questions, each answer read from Nomad's own site and help centre and dated, so you can check whether a regional plan or a custom route fits your trip.

Nomad on this page means Nomad eSIM, a product of LotusFlare, Inc., sold at nomadesim.com. Its earlier address, getnomad.app, now forwards to nomadesim.com. It is not nomad.com or nomadwireless.com, which are not Nomad eSIM's websites; nothing on this page describes them.

Custom route or regional plan

A regional plan prices a group of countries as one unit. A custom route prices only the countries you choose. Which is the better fit depends on how your trip lines up with a region: if you visit most of a region, a regional plan may cover you; if your route crosses from one region into another, a regional plan can leave a country out. Our custom countries vs regional eSIM page sets out where that line falls.

Nomad sells these regional plans: Europe (35 or 36 countries), Balkans (12), Greater China (4), APAC (14 or 21), CN-JP-KR (3), SEA-Oceania (8), SG-MY-TH (3), North America (3), Latin America (17), Caribbean (15), Africa (11), MENA (10) and GCC (6), plus Global (123) and Global-EX (98). The two Europe plans cover different countries:

  • Europe, 35 Countries Plan: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Gibraltar, Greece, Holy See (Vatican City), Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, San Marino, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and the United Kingdom. Turkey is not included.
  • Europe, 36 Countries Plan: the same list without Gibraltar and San Marino, and with the Canary Islands, Northern Cyprus and Turkey added.
  • Balkans, 12 Countries Plan: Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Greece, Hungary, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Romania, Serbia, Slovenia and Turkey.

For Greece and Turkey with 5GB for 30 days, Nomad lists the Europe 36 Countries Plan at US$18, the Balkans plan at US$25 and the Global plan at US$40.

When to choose Nomad eSIM

From what nomadesim.com states, Nomad eSIM can be the better purchase in these cases:

  • A route inside one Nomad region. If every country on your trip is in one regional plan, such as Europe (36 countries) for Greece and Turkey, one plan covers it: 5GB for 30 days is US$18.
  • You want unlimited data for a short trip. Some eSIMs, such as Europe, have Unlimited plans of 5 or 10 days.
  • You need data for many months. The Global-EX plans run up to 365 days across 98 countries.
  • You need a phone number in Thailand, the UK or the Maldives. Nomad's Thailand eSIM includes a local number, and it has UK and Maldives calling plans; Hoam eSIM is data only.
  • You prefer an app. The Nomad app handles purchase, data tracking and add-ons.

When to choose Hoam eSIM

Your route crosses regions. HOAM Dynamic eSIM covers every country you choose with one plan, wherever each one sits on a map of regions.

You travel more than once. The eSIM stays on your phone, costs nothing between trips, and takes a new plan for the next one from the browser. See how reloading works.

You do not want an app. Everything happens in the browser.

Hoam eSIM is data only; your own SIM keeps your number for calls and SMS.

How the comparison was made

Every Nomad eSIM cell is read from nomadesim.com and its help centre, and carries the page it came from and the date it was read. Our column is what our own site states, and our price is read live from the catalogue when this page is served. The price example uses one fixed route, Greece and Turkey with 5GB for 30 days, on every comparison page, so the pages can be read side by side.

Frequently asked questions

Is this page about nomadesim.com, getnomad.app or nomad.com?

It is about Nomad eSIM, which is sold at nomadesim.com; its earlier address, getnomad.app, now forwards there, so both names mean the same product. It is not about nomad.com, nomadwireless.com or any other business that uses the name Nomad.

Can one Hoam eSIM cover countries from different regions?

Yes. Hoam eSIM prices the countries you choose, not a region, so one plan can combine, for example, Greece and Turkey, as long as each is one of our 200+ destinations. On Nomad, the plans that include both are Europe (36 countries), Balkans (12 countries), Global (123 countries) and Global-EX (98 countries); the Europe 35 Countries Plan includes Greece but not Turkey.

Do I need an app?

Not for Hoam eSIM: choosing, paying, installing and reloading all happen in the browser. Nomad eSIM can also be bought on its website, with an account or as a guest, and installed from the QR code in the email, or through the Nomad app.

Can I reuse the same eSIM on my next trip?

With Hoam eSIM, yes. The eSIM stays installed at no cost between trips and takes a new plan for the next one, with no new QR code. Nomad adds an add-on to the same eSIM only while its current plan is still active, and only on plans that support add-ons; its help centre says an expired plan cannot be topped up and the next trip needs a new eSIM.
